For this blog I used a practical example: I went out to find the appropriate location and I thought my cellar would be a good one. I used a combination of close ups, mid shots and long shots, to try and create a little scene through stills. I found the use of lowkey lighting to be very effective in some areas and i tried to light up the persons face for closeups to see more emotion. I also tried to display binary oppositions theory through the use of clothing, the villain is wearing all black to connote evil and danger: whereas, the other character is in white this adds a color contrast and character contrast so the opposition theory is clearly visible. The close up shows the emotion on the characters face: the other closeup with half the face creates a confused look on the characters face and a sense of mystery. The low angle shot of the figure, creates a black silhouette and a sense of intimidation but also power. The suggestive shots of the shadows creates more fear than necessarily showing due to this suggestive nature when violence does come the audience wouldn't be
desensitized to it. The overall mis en scene of these shots follow common codes and conventions of a horror genre, this is complemented by the shot types such as the close up and low angle mid-shot create fear and suspense.
